WeChat Moments  is WeChat’s built-in, friends-only social feed—a semi-private space to share life moments with your WeChat contacts. Launched April 19, 2012 (WeChat 4.0), it’s often called China’s “private Facebook.”

🔹 Core Concept

  • Closed & intimate: Only mutual WeChat friends can see, like, or comment your posts.
  • No public discovery: Strangers can’t view your feed by default (you can turn off “Show last 10 posts to strangers”)WeChat
  • Real-name & low anonymity: Tied to your WeChat ID; builds a real-life social graph (friends, family, colleagues).

🔹 What You Can Post

  • Text only: Plain thoughts or quotes.
  • Photos: Up to 9 images per post (classic limit).
  • Videos: Up to 5 minutes (2025 update; previously 30s).
  • Links: Share articles, mini-programs, music, or H5 pages.
  • Location: Tag cities, shops, or travel spots.
  • Mentions: Tag specific friends in a post.

🔹 Key Privacy Controls (Very Chinese Feature)

  • Block people: “Don’t let him see my Moments” / “Don’t see his Moments”.
  • Time limits:
    • Last 3 days (most popular)
    • Last 6 months
    • All posts
  • Post-specific visibility: “Share only with…” or “Exclude…” for each post.
  • No visitor history: No “who viewed my profile”—reduces social pressure.

🔹 User Scale & Culture (2025–2026)

  • Daily active users: ~780 million open Moments every day.
  • Daily posters: ~120 million share content daily.
  • “3-day visible” trend: Over 200 million users set this—sign of lighter, less permanent sharing.
  • Content vibe: Travel, food, family, selfies, work highlights, soft ads, and memes.
